AllMusic Review by Heather Phares
Following 2014's Syro and its follow-up EP's Computer Controlled Acoustic Instruments pt2 and MARCHROMT30a Edit 2b 96, Richard D. James keeps up his prolific streak with his first release under the AFX moniker in over a decade. Picking up where the acid laced Analord series left off and following the nexx level club focused material of the recently-revealed-to-be material as The Tuss orphaned deejay selek 2006-2008 goes down a more floor focused approach as evident from the off, opener serge fenix Rendered 2 is prime time Analord acid following on where Fenix Funk 5 left off and moving further into sounds never seen electro and acid territories. dmx acid test goes down a proper panned 303 route crafting a nice interlude before the bouncing ball acid of oberheim blacet1b rears its reverb drenched tab for a tight electronica track of hallucinatory proportions (which ends with a crafty amen break - giving nod to the days of his jungle tracks ala RDJ) bonus EMT beats fully lets the drums go, focusing on tight percussion pinning sharply throughout the field of audio. Flip for the killer live fan favourite simple slamming b 2 a haunting techno track that sounds like nothing else really out there, part gabba part old school sublow and proper darkside synths rinsing through the sky above. midi pipe1c sds3time cube/klonedrm recalls The Gentle People's outside ambience but with a 7 am grin(gurn) while NEOTEKT72 and r8m neotek beat roll up a hip-hop sound to cap off whats an absolute highlight in a discography of legendary proportion and possibly the finest AFX (under any alias) release in years.

As a young boy, Brahms was given rudimentary lessons on both the violin and cello by his father, although it was the piano that primarily activated his executant and creative imagination. Accordingly, his first published works included three virtuoso piano sonatas that rejoice in the instrument's potential for rich and powerful middle-register (cello) sonorities.
Brahms's understanding of string instruments and their expressive potential was considerably enhanced by early contact with two of the most renowned violinists of the age. He spent much of his early teens trying to help support his poor family by playing the piano in back-street taverns (thinly disguised brothels), the anguished memory of which was to haunt him for the rest of his life. He was finally released from this sordid existence when in 1850 the celebrated gypsy violinist Eduard Reményi, asked him to become his official accompanist, and such was Brahms's immense skill that at one concert he compensated for an out-of-tune piano by transposing all of the accompaniments at sight. The impact of playing popular East European folk music with Reményi is felt particularly in his 21 Hungarian Dances as exemplified by the moody swagger and irresistible chutzpah of No.20, heard here in an expert arrangement by celebrated Italian virtuoso and teacher Carlo Alfredo Piatti (1822-1901).

AllMusic Review by Heather Phares
Battles' John Stanier, Ian Williams, and Dave Konopka always sound psyched to play together, but never more so than on their first entirely instrumental album, La Di Da Di. While vocals -- first provided by Tyondai Braxton on their early work and by a host of collaborators on 2011's Gloss Drop -- might have seemed necessary to humanize their experimentation, they're not missed on the band's third full-length. If anything, removing them gives the trio's ideas to generate sparks the way they did on Mirrored (particularly on "Tricentennial," which recalls the mischievous alien anthems of their debut) while keeping Gloss Drop's immediacy. Battles' mix of muscular drums and riffs and heady melodies and electronics has never sounded so liberated, whether on "The Yabba," a thrilling seven-minute excursion that sounds more like seven one-minute songs strung together, or on the relatively serene "Luu Le," which uses the same amount of time to close the album with a sun-dappled suite. Here and throughout La Di Da Di, the band sounds mercurial but not chaotic, with an interplay that ebbs and flows like creativity itself. Indeed, there's a uniquely rubbery quality to these tracks, a built-in bounce that suggests Battles recorded them while jumping on trampolines. As vivid as La Di Da Di's sound paintings are, the album feels more consistent than Gloss Drop, where the vocal cameos made the band sound like a different act on each track. Here, they employ a few recurring motifs -- sleigh bells, distorted synths, power chords that lunge and swell like a string section -- that underscore how well they straddle the line between rock and electronic music. While Williams and Konopka's guitars get plenty of use, the way Battles riff on sounds and ideas until they become something new on La Di Da Di has more in common with Matmos or Oneohtrix Point Never. Deep within "Dot Com"'s weirdly chipper fusion of synth arpeggios and arena-sized riffs lies the mutated DNA of the Who's "Baba O'Reilly," while "FF Bada"'s fanfares and twangy guitars reconfigure surf rock and spaghetti Western themes and "Summer Simmer" lets its roiling funk boil over into a hectic call and response between the guitars and synths. As Battles evolve, they remain true to their unique mix of brains and brawn, and La Di Da Di just might be their most engaging music yet.

Quote:
Ben Mitchell is a singer-songwriter from Healesville, Victoria writing and performing emotionally raw and intimate acoustic country-blues and alternative-folk songs with influences from Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, early Elvis and Charley Pride among classic others.
His fourth and latest album, Slow Is The New Fast is getting rave reviews with The Music calling it "his finest album". Described as 'soulful country folk' it was recorded with multi ARIA award winner, Matt Walker in an analogue studio high in the hills on the outskirts of Melbourne.
"A swampy shimmer underlies acoustic guitar and the wonderful voice of Ben Mitchell as he sings of ignoring the things you can't control in life and giving into the flow and destiny of existence..The elements are all there, reduced to their essential components of rhythm, mood and tone. His voice is the real drawcard though. Warm and yearning, with just that right amount of ache and sweet serenade. Soulful country folk."
