Satyricon - Rebel Extravaganza (Remastered Version) (2019) [Hi-Res]

    Artist: Satyricon
    Title: Rebel Extravaganza (Remastered Version)
    Year Of Release: 2019
    Label: Napalm Records Handels GmbH
    Genre: Rock, Metal
    Quality: FLAC (tracks) [88.2kHz/24bit]
    Total Time: 1:00:38
    Total Size: 1.22 GB
    Tracklist:
    01. Tied in Bronze Chains (Remastered Version) (10:56)
    02. Filthgrinder (Remastered Version) (6:39)
    03. Rhapsody in Filth (Remastered Version) (1:38)
    04. Havoc Vulture (Remastered Version) (6:45)
    05. Prime Evil Renaissance (Remastered Version) (6:13)

    07. End of Journey (Remastered Version) (2:19)
    08. A Moment of Clarity (Remastered Version) (6:40)
    09. Down South, Up North (Remastered Version) (1:14)
    10. The Scorn Torrent (Remastered Version) (10:24)
They may be down to a twosome on Rebel Extravaganza -- Frost on "Battery" duty and mainman Satyr doing everything else -- but Satyricon retains the keynotes of their sound -- goblin vocals, hyper-driven blastbeats, and sepulchral atmospherics -- while managing to experiment with new elements, like a marked industrial tone to the wall of guitar noise that supplants the synths in many places and -- blasphemy! -- even a more rock & roll feel to some tracks. But while the change in musical direction and the goth-painted visage of Satyr on the album inlay may shriek "sellout," the band has been canny enough to include an equal number of songs that stick faithfully to the blueprint laid down on their classic albums The Shadowthrone and Nemesis Divina. It is ironic, then, that large portions of Rebel Extravaganza are afflicted by a monochromatic sameness that makes it difficult for all but the most committed to keep their minds from wandering while listening to it. Which may also be because a few songs (the otherwise impressive "The Scorn Torrent" among them) go on for way too long. Though the album overall is well performed and produced, it often lacks feel, giving the impression of something professionally and clinically pieced together. Rebel Extravaganza is listenable, just not engaging enough for non-hardcore fans -- and that's not for want of trying either, which is more the pity. ~ Leslie Mathew

"The classical musicians have a foot in improv; the jazz players get Indian music."
The Guardian, contemporary album of the month
"A record that transcends generic assumptions of the lazily termed "Eastern style"..."
    The Vinyl Factory
    "A truly enriching listen."
    Songlines, ★★★★★
Off the back of Sarathy Korwar's much lauded Day To Day album comes the live album My East Is Your West - a performance that takes the fusion of Indian classical music with the jazz tradition further than its ever been before. Recorded live at London's Church Of Sound, the album is a homage to the great musicians of the 60s and 70s spiritual jazz movement, covering the likes of Alice Coltrane, Pharaoh Sanders, and Joe Henderson. Korwar plays alongside the UPAJ Collective, a group of highly-versatile musicians who share Sarathy's passion for jazz and Indian music and who have together managed to rebalance the cross-cultural relationship between 'Western' and 'Eastern' music.
With every record Sarathy releases his music becomes more exploratory and insightful, delving into his personal influences, which also inspire much of the music in the jazz scene that surrounds him. At a time where UK jazz is being heralded for its progression, innovation and far-reaching appeal to people from varying backgrounds, 'My East Is Your West' is an essential record that explores cultural and musical diversity in way that will continue to be relevant for years to come.

Sarah Jarosz - Follow Me Down (2011)

    Artist: Sarah Jarosz
    Title: Follow Me Down
    Year Of Release: 2011
    Label: Sugar Hill Records
    Genre: Country, Bluegrass, Folk
    Quality: FLAC (tracks) / MP3 320 Kbps
    Total Time: 39:12
    Total Size: 256 Mb / 100 Mb
    Tracklist:
    01. Run Away
    02. Come Around
    03. Annabelle Lee
    04. Ring Them Bells
    05. My Muse
    06. Floating In The Balance
    07. Old Smitty
    08. The Tourist
    09. Here Nor There
    10. Gypsy
    11. Peace
You can anticipate objections to Sarah Jarosz's sophomore effort from a couple of different directions: those who saw her as someone who would make old-time country music attractive to the Twitter generation may feel that she's abandoned her sacred duty; others may suspect her of suffering from Elvis Costello Syndrome (which causes spoon-bendingly talented musicians to get tired of doing what their talents have made easy for them and to begin pushing the boundaries of their gifts, with sometimes embarrassing results). Neither objection would be correct. First of all, despite the fact that she plays clawhammer banjo and mandolin and is fluent in early-country vernacular, Jarosz's music has always been much more complicated than that; listen past the accent and the frailing on her debut album and you'll hear about eight or ten different musical genres jostling against each other. Second of all, on Follow Me Down, the drum-powered groove of "Come Around" and the newgrass jazziness of "Old Smitty" and the Radiohead cover are not so much departures from what she's done in the past as they are logical next steps. This isn't to say that everything succeeds perfectly; where "Gypsy" is slow and gorgeous and rocks like a tree swing on a summer evening, her version of "The Tourist" merely drags; where "My Muse" is lushly beautiful, "Come Around" is intense but not terribly tuneful. But virtually everything else comes perilously close to perfection, and each song sounds different from all the others. Jarosz's talent is wondrous and in no way normal, and her developing musical maturity continues to be a wonder to watch.

    [3:27] 17. Sandy Barber - Look Out Sky - Version 2
[3:58] 18. Sandy Barber - Remember Me - Up Tempo Version
Barely Breaking Even (BBE) Records takes the opportunity to re-issue a record originally released in 1977, conceived as the result of the pairing of Sandy Barber with record label boss Clyde Otis. Also featuring artistic input from Tasha Thomas (vocal arrangement) and Nat Adderly Jnr (musical arranger and son of the noted Jazz Trumpeter), BBE clearly believe that this is a record that deserves wider musical exposure, having long been sought out by DJs and record collectors. The question is, does the release confirm their commercial and artistic judgement?
The record opens with 'Look Out Sky', a record driven by hi-hats and wonderfully organic bass playing, sweetened with light orchestration. 'Well happy is as happy does', sings Barber, continuing, 'Look out sky I think I've found someone to love me'. The vocal delivery is utterly assured, Barber conveying completely the mood of the uplifting lyric. 'I've Got Something Good' is a driving dancefloor stomper, featuring bouncy chords and tightly controlled brass and bass work (with at least one melodic nod to Kool & The Gang's 1974 'Summer Madness'). 'The First Time' is a slow ballad, featuring a powerful vocal performance over wonderfully sustained strings, the type of song that could only have been created, perhaps quite lamentably, in an earlier age. The tempo shifts upwards for the album title track 'Don't You Worry Baby (The Best Is Yet To Come)', again allowing Barber's vocals to soar over a track that shifts from a disco like drive to a swaying midsection (featuring a lovely saxophone solo), before concluding with a return to an uptempo vocal coda.

Hard Meat was a British progressive rock group active between 1969 and 1971. It was formed by the Birmingham-born brothers Michael Dolan (1947-2 August 2014) (guitar, lead vocals) and Steve Dolan (1948-22 May 2000) (bass, vocals), with drummer Mick (variously Mike) Carless.
The trio's debut single was a cover of the Beatles' "Rain" b/w "Burning Up Years" on the Island label in 1969. This was followed by two albums released by Warner Bros in 1970: Hard Meat and Through a Window. Their second single (culled from the latter album) was "The Ballad of Marmalade Emma and Teddy Grimes," based on the life of two well-known Colchester tramps. Despite tours of Europe and the U.S., neither album saw chart success, and the group disbanded shortly afterwards.
New Zealand band The Human Instinct covered "Burning Up Years" on their 1969 debut album of the same name.

Bill Morrissey - Something I Saw Or Thought I Saw (2001/2019)

    Artist: Bill Morrissey
Title: Something I Saw Or Thought I Saw
    Year Of Release: 2001/2019
    Label: Philo
    Genre: Folk
Quality: 320 kbps | FLAC (tracks)
    Total Time: 00:40:44
    Total Size: 95 mb | 234 mb
    Tracklist:
    01. Twenty Third Street
    02. Harry's Last Call
    03. Just Before We Lost The War
    04. Winter Song
    05. Moving Day
    06. Buddy Bolden's Blues
    07. St. Valentine's Day
    08. Traveling By Cab
    09. Fix Your Hair The Way You Used To
    10. Judgment Day
    11. Mobile
    12. Will You Be My Rose?
Something I Saw or Thought I Saw is a title that suggests the sometimes uncertain perspective of the characters in Bill Morrissey's songs. His usual reference points are in place he fills his songs with weather imagery, most of it winter-related, he sets many of his stories on the road, and his characters are always well-lubricated. In "Harry's Song," one character, just before having a beer, asks another if a phone caller was drunk. "No, but he'd been drinking," she replies, revealing an eye for degrees of inebriation that is typical of people in Morrissey songs. The main subject of the album is romantic dissolution. Annotator Ted Drozdowski notes that the songwriter has been through a second divorce, which is no surprise after you listen to "Twenty Third Street" (which seems to be another in the line of songs set in New York's Chelsea Hotel), "Just Before We Lost the War," "Moving Day," "Buddy Bolden's Blues," and "Fix Your Hair the Way You Used to Do." These songs are filled with Morrissey's always acute observations, yet the album's two most impressive compositions are on other topics. "Harry's Last Call" is about the dwindling of a longtime friendship between a man who has settled down and another who is still on the road. Though it is told from the point of view of the former, you can't help thinking that the songwriter himself may be closer to the latter. And "Traveling by Cab" is about a middle-aged trucker who stops in a young person's bar and watches a highly theatrical rock & roll band that he condemns. Though Morrissey himself may share that sentiment, the trucker is an untrustworthy persona. In Morrissey's best songs, his messages are often undercut by such compromised characters, lending them a complexity they might otherwise lack.
